James Scoffin, CPA has over 30 years of experience in business, tax and accounting, and has held positions of Controller, Vice President of Finance, and CFO at multiple local and national organizations throughout his career. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and is an active member of the USCG Auxiliary. He received his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Accounting from San Diego State University.

Lena Altman, EA
Tax Manager
Lena originally started her career in tax at a Big 4 international accounting firm – Deloitte in San Diego. After Deloitte, Lena transitioned to working at tax department of a San Diego-based real estate company before she returned to public accounting in early 2018 when she joined James Scoffin CPA firm.
Lena earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting and her Master of Science in Accountancy (Taxation) from San Diego State University. She is licensed as an Enrolled Agent (EA).
With almost 12 years of tax experience, Lena strives to provide the highest level of service to her clients, specializing in tax filing and reporting for high-net-worth individuals and small corporations.
In her free time, Lena enjoys traveling, surfing, yoga, going to the movies, and volunteering.

Cameron Balough
Senior Tax Associate
In 2019, Cameron started his career in tax at Frank Rimerman & Co. in the San Francisco Bay Area. After spending 4 years with Frank Rimerman & Co. Cameron disengaged from the firm and moved back home to San Diego.
Cameron earned a Bachelor’s degree at Judson University in 2016 and later earned a Masters in Accountancy from National University in 2018.
In his free time Cameron enjoys watching baseball, playing beach volleyball, watching movies/tv shows, and spending time with his family, friends, and pets.

Kate Porter
Staff Accountant
Kate graduated from UCLA with honors and immediately joined the accounting profession. She comes to the firm with ten years of experience, working in all aspects of bookkeeping, including payroll, A/R and A/P, and financial statement production. She lives in Mission Trails with her husband and daughter. When she needs a break from finance, she is an avid knitter and baker, as well as a published children's author.
