James Scoffin, CPA has over 30 years of experience in business, tax and accounting, and has held positions of Controller, Vice President of Finance, and CFO at multiple local and national organizations throughout his career. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and is an active member of the USCG Auxiliary. He received his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Accounting from San Diego State University.

Lena Altman, EA
Tax Manager
Lena originally started her career in tax at a Big 4 international accounting firm – Deloitte in San Diego. After Deloitte, Lena transitioned to working at tax department of a San Diego-based real estate company before she returned to public accounting in early 2018 when she joined James Scoffin CPA firm.
Lena earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting and her Master of Science in Accountancy (Taxation) from San Diego State University. She is licensed as an Enrolled Agent (EA).
With over 13 years of tax experience, Lena strives to provide the highest level of service to her clients, specializing in tax filing and reporting for high-net-worth individuals and small corporations.
In her free time, Lena enjoys traveling, surfing, yoga, going to the movies, and volunteering.

Cameron Balough
Senior Tax Associate
In 2019, Cameron started his career in tax at Frank Rimerman & Co. in the San Francisco Bay Area. After spending 4 years with Frank Rimerman & Co. Cameron disengaged from the firm and moved back home to San Diego.
Cameron earned a Bachelor’s degree at Judson University in 2016 and later earned a Masters in Accountancy from National University in 2018.
In his free time Cameron enjoys watching baseball, playing beach volleyball, watching movies/tv shows, and spending time with his family, friends, and pets.

Damaris Cruz
Tax Intern
Damaris is a senior at San Diego State University pursuing a Bachelor's degree in accounting. With a strong interest in taxation, she is particularly interested in S corporation tax and aims to build a career in public accounting.
Outside of work, Damaris loves camping and visiting national parks with her family, always looking for new places to explore.

Josh Vetlesen
Tax Intern
Josh is currently pursuing his Master of Science degree in accounting at Grand Canyon University, where he also earned his Bachelor of Science degree in accounting with an emphasis in public accounting. As a Tax Intern at James Scoffin CPA, Josh assists with individual and business tax preparation, client communication, and research on evolving tax regulations. Josh is working toward earning his CPA designation and is passionate about helping clients navigate complex tax matters with accuracy and integrity. In his free time, Josh enjoys playing softball, watching sports, and spending time with his family and friends.

Justin Jackson
Tax Intern
Justin is currently a junior attending the University of San Diego pursuing a Bachelor's and Master's degrees in accountancy. He has developed a passion for accounting through taking USD's accounting courses and participating in related extracurricular events, where he had an opportunity to network with many professionals in the field, sparking his interest in this profession. As for Justin's career aspirations, he strives to enter the public accounting field, specializing in tax, while pursuing a CPA license. Currently, as a Tax Intern at James Scoffin CPA, he plans to utilize the knowledge he gains and apply it to this profession after graduation.
Justin loves playing basketball, going to the movies, and exploring new restaurants in his free time.
